Asphalt shingles
Asphalt shingles will last for about 15–30 years. They are, far and away, the most popular roofing material because of their cost effectiveness.

When it comes to durability, though, be careful. Never choose the cheapest asphalt shingles, even if cost is a major issue for you. Look for shingles that have a decent hail rating, a good indicator of impact resistance and overall durability.

Roofing material manufacturers are not legally required to report their hail rating, so if you don’t see one, this isn’t a good sign. Hail rating is particularly important with asphalt shingles. Because they’re so common, their quality ranges wildly. Source: HouseMethod

Built-up roofing
Built-up roofing (BUR) is one of the oldest options for material for flat roofs or roofs that are very low in pitch. BUR systems are constructed with several layers of roofing felt impregnated with asphalt that is applied hot. The felt is applied in overlapping layers to form a barrier two to four layers thick, then a layer of finely crushed stone is embedded in hot tar over the top to create a very durable and impenetrable roof.

BUR roofs typically cost $2.50 to $5 per square foot, installed. Industry surveys show that a properly installed BUR roof can last 20 to 30 years. Source: TheSpruce

Wood shingles
Wooden roofing shingles are made from red cedar, due to its resistance to the elements and to insects, and cedar shingles do not decay rapidly. There are essentially two types of wooden shingles — shakes, which are split rather than cut, and standard shingles, which are mechanically sawn. When using wooden shingles you need to use shake shingles, as these are the best to use for roofing. These are beginning to get up in price, but are still cheaper than other types of roofing materials. Source: DoItYourself
