What You Need to Know About Seamless Gutters

You want to make sure that when it rains, the water goes where it is supposed to—off the roof and away from your house. One way to do this is by installing gutters on your home. But what are gutters, really? And more importantly, what is a seamless gutter? Read on to find out!

What is a seamless gutter?
Seamless gutters are—just like it says on the tin—seamless. Also known as continuous gutters, seamless gutters are manufactured from a single piece of material. They have not been partitioned into sections and, therefore, do not require any sealing at the joints or seams. This makes them long-lasting, leak-resistant and low maintenance compared to regular gutters. Seamless gutters come in a variety of standard gutter materials, including aluminum, steel and copper. Pros

Seamless gutters are much more reliable and durable compared to sectional gutters, lasting 20 to 50 years or more. They have fewer seams than sectional gutters, and only need joints in the areas where the downspouts are attached and in the corners of the roof. The way they are constructed makes them less prone to leaking, as well as clogs, water damage, mold, and rot.

Thanks to this durability, seamless gutters also need less maintenance. They are easier to clean than sectional gutters and should require gutter cleaning just twice per year. Source: Modernize

Cons

High initial costs
Seamless gutters are custom-fit to your home, and because of the material and professional installation cost, they’re more expensive upfront than regular ones. Compared to standard gutters that cost $3 to $20 per linear foot, seamless gutters cost $4 to $30 per linear foot to install. However, while they do require more money from you initially, they typically require lower maintenance and have fewer leaks which can outweigh the cost.

Maintenance
Another drawback of seamless gutters is that any repairs that need to be made require you to replace the entire gutter. Since the gutters are seamless, you can’t repair only one gutter section and leave the rest alone—you’ll have to replace the entire gutter run. And the cost to replace gutters averages around $1,900. Source: Angi
