Don’t Forget These 3 Areas During Your Spring Cleaning

Spring is the time of year for fresh starts and new beginnings. It’s also the time to clear away the clutter from winter and make way for new things. But there are some areas in your home you may have forgotten about. Here are three areas to keep an eye on during your spring cleaning:

Drainage
To freshen drains (not unclog them) and help keep them free-flowing, mix 1/2 cup baking soda with 1/4 cup table salt. Pour the mixture down the drain, followed by 1 cup heated vinegar. It will foam and bubble. Let it stand for 15 minutes tops. Follow by running hot tap water for at least 15 to 30 seconds. This is especially helpful for seldom-used drains, like in guest bathrooms. Deck
Whether you have a deck or patio, a few simple cleaning chores can turn it from a winter-neglected spot into a fun outdoor gathering space.

– Flooring: If you have a wood deck, inspect the wood for signs of rot or decay and make repairs as necessary. Sweep first, then scrub the wood with oxalic acid to kill microbes, and restain the deck if necessary. For a concrete patio, check for chips or cracks that need repair, and scrub away any stains.
Furniture: If your patio furniture has been out in the weather all winter, it will need to be scrubbed clean. If it has been stored instead, now is the time to brush it off and return it to the patio or deck.
Grills: If you have a grill, check its connections and operations, following all safety guidelines. Clean the grills and handles, lubricate the lid, and get ready for great barbecues.
Lighting: If your patio area includes exterior lighting, check that bulbs are snugly screwed in and that all fixtures are working appropriately. Remove any rodent, bird, or insect nests and clean the fixtures so they will shine as brightly as possible. Source: Cleaning.LoveToKnow

Fireplace
Dirty, blocked, cracked, and leaking chimneys, flues, and venting not only present a fire hazard, but can also negatively impact the day-to-day air quality in your home, says Richard Ciresi, franchise owner of Aire Serv, a Neighborly company. The good news? You don’t have to do much to stay on top of this—the safest course of action is to schedule a routine annual cleaning and inspection. Source: OprahDaily
