Signs You Have Problems in Your Water Main Line

Most of us take our running water for granted and we don’t realize how much we rely on it until plumbing problems start popping up.

It is important that you work on the issues as soon as you notice any warning signs. This will ensure that you won’t lose access to your water system and will continue to enjoy it in your day-to-day life.

So, make sure to be wary of these signs to identify a problem with your water main line.

1. Cracks in your foundation

Your home’s foundation is the bedrock on which your home has been built — any sign of cracks forming should be taken seriously. However, not all cracks are created the same, and identifying the underlying cause of the problem can help better inform your next steps. For example, if you’ve had a water main that has slowly but steadily leaked for an extended period near your home, it could be the precise reason you have started noticing the beginning of cracks.

If your water main has sprung a leak underneath your home, you don’t want to wait to get the issue addressed by the professionals. Fortunately, Mister Sewer and Plumbing can help you determine if a leaking water main is the source of your woes and make the necessary repairs to prevent the problem from worsening over time. 2. Pressure drop

Whenever you go to the doctors, one of the first things they will check is your blood pressure. Low blood pressure is a symptom of something else. In a similar way, low water pressure is indicative of a problem with your plumbing system.

If you’ve noticed a drop in your water pressure, you check the pressure in all the rooms that have a water supply. If the water pressure has dropped in all the rooms then there may be a problem with the water supply coming into your home. There may be a leak in the supply pipe.

If you find there is low pressure in one room in particular, then that’s your starting point in tracing a potential leak. In contrast, high water pressure isn’t always a good thing either.

3. Pool of water — Not the swimming kind

Keep your eyes out for these. As a general rule, water doesn’t pool but drains. That means if you see pooling water outside in the street or even in your own yard, then there is likely a leak in the water main or in the supply pipe that comes to your home. Source: Jolly Plumbing

4. Discolored water

This is a very obvious sign that something is wrong with your water main line. Obviously, your water should come out clear, with no sediment.

If the water coming out of your fixtures is discolored, this means there’s probably a leak. Not only will this let sediment in, but it’ll also let heavy metals in as well. This can be very dangerous to either drink or bathe in.

Again, like with the other two points, if the water is only discolored from one fixture, then it’s probably an isolated issue. But if it’s coming out funky on all your fixtures, then it’s most likely a problem with your water main line.

5. Noisy fixtures

When everything’s working perfectly, there should be no noises coming from any of your fixtures.

Have you noticed a banging sound coming from your pipes when you use the water? Or does your toilet start gurgling when you use the sink?

Then, these are some warning signs that your water main line has a problem and also a sign telling you to hire a plumber. Source: Mr Rooter Plumbing
